Artist Statement
As a Kosovan diaspora artist originating from the UK, my work delves into the realm of oral history within neglected environments. I aim to transform these negative, forgotten spaces into catalysts for awareness, advocating for sustainable living and striving for positive outcomes.Having been raised in both the UK and Kosovo, I draw inspiration from the dualities of my cultural upbringing, exploring themes of identity and rediscovery through the forgotten narratives of our surroundings. Through my art, I strive to build communities that resonate with shared experiences, articulating the oral histories passed down through generations, often marred by destructive forces and disregard for space.Compelled to recreate the spaces of my familial heritage, capturing the stories and memories handed down through generations. Many of these once-thriving homes now lie abandoned, mere echoes of the past. In my sculptures, I aim to resurrect these fragments of memory, inviting viewers to engage with their history by interacting with the artwork.Through sculpture, paintings, photography, and installation, I endeavor to encapsulate oral histories and historical landscapes, fostering a profound connection to one's heritage while advocating for sustainable change in the future. My artistic practice is driven by a desire to utilise creative expression as a catalyst for positive transformation within our living environments.
