Installation, wood, plasterboard, CRT TV
1.60 x 1.60m
An installation representing a space shaped by negligence and destructive practices. Drawing from the mining activity surrounding my mother’s home village of Hade, the work presents homes as empty white shells; scarred, damaged, and hollowed out. These structures speak to the fate of local homes and the unsettling feeling of no longer feeling safe in the only place one has ever known safety.
A window is presented half open, drawing the curiosity of the viewer to look inside. Within the space sits a CRT TV, surrounded by an overwhelming darkness broken only by a deep red light. A single video plays from my personal archive of footage I have collected over time, including shots of my hometown’s areas such as Obliq and Hade, capturing its fields and homes affected by years of neglect and abandonment. What was once a land rich in biodiversity now exists as a quiet, lingering reminder of what has been lost.
